Cassie Fitzgerald has returned to Stoneham to bury her mother and perhaps finally lay to rest the demons that have plagued her. Though Cassie has a good life and is pursuing her dream job, there will always be something missing. Cassie’s memories of her family and her hometown are not fond ones. Her difficult relationship with her family never improved. It never had the chance to. Five years ago her wild sister, Diane, was murdered, just three months after her marriage. Shortly after her father committed suicide. But Cassie’s heart had already been shattered, when three months prior to Diane’s death Diane had married the man Cassie loved, who had promised Cassie his heart and his future: Cole Martin. Upon her return to town, Cassie cannot leave the mystery of Diane’s death unsolved. And no matter how she wants to stay away from Cole, she finds she cannot.

Cole ran with a wild gang as a young man, only cleaning up his act when faced with impending fatherhood. Whilst he wanted nothing more than to have Cassie for his own, he couldn’t turn his back on his child. To come so close to having Cassie but to loose her to his past stupidity nearly brook him, but he had little choice. Five years later, he is still viewed with suspicion. An outcast, the whole town believes he murdered Diane. His airtight alibi is the only thing between him and jail. But maybe now he has a second chance with Cassie, the woman of his dreams. But secrets hang heavy over the town, secrets some don’t want revealed. Secrets Cassie is determined to uncover – but which someone will do anything to protect. Will Cole get his second chance with Cassie, or will they lose each other just as they once again find one another?

Judith Rochelle’s Playing With Fire is a fabulous tale that will surely widen your eyes in delight and get your pulse pounding hard and fast. My favorite part of the plot is the suspense laden mystery. I swear, this kept me glued to this book. I had not a single clue as to how the mystery would unfold. Judith Rochelle kept the secrets of the story very well – and when the secrets were disclosed they were done so in an excellent and unforeseen manner. Of course, the mystery is not the only aspect of the book that will see a raise in your pulse. There are love scenes, not all graphically depicted but all fit in with the storyline and build on the strong chemistry that is evident between these two excellent characters. The plot is rather engaging, made real by excellently developed characters and the feeling of being a part of the story. The depiction of the town…Wow! Talk about feeling like there is a conspiracy. For an enjoyable romance between two lost loves, with a riddle to be solved, your best bet is Playing With Fire. Be sure to collect your copy soon!
